I can eat again

I took 5ml of the oxycodone this morning and that’s it! I’ve been able to eat and drink all day. I’m not eating much, but it’s still progress. The Dr. said I would wake up one morning and it would be significantly better and I guess today was the day!

Update

Well, wish I had some fabulous news…but still struggling with some big side effects.

I met with my oncologist yesterday when I was at the infusion center. He prescribed an antidepressant and also a steroid to help give me energy and try to stimulate my appetite. The steroid works right away. The antidepressant in 2-4 weeks.

Happy Thanksgiving

It’s been a while…sorry for the lack of updates. I’ve been hesitant to write a post as I don’t want to come across as complaining. I also know my brain is in a bit of a fog and I’m not sure how coherent a post would have been a few days ago. 🙂 My brain has started to work again (off and on) and I have been able to get out of the house a little bit, although it makes me a little anxious. Home is just the most comfortable place to be right now.

Appointments this week

I’ve definitely turned a corner! I’ve had more energy the past couple days and I think I might be settling into my new normal. I’m still dealing with a few side effects, but I am thankful that the depression is gone and that some of my energy is back. I was able to do some Black Friday shopping with the girls on Friday and we went on a family date to see Frozen 2 yesterday. I stood the entire time of worship during church this morning as well. Still no where close to what I was doing a few months ago, but progress!!

Appointment Update

All 3 appointments went well today. Tom is really sick, so he needed to stay home. I went to the infusion center by myself, which was fine. Cortney and Karin came last minute to my Dr. apt. and Tom was on speaker phone. We talked about managing constipation from the meds, trying to stop the zofran as that adds to the problem, taking a break from the anti-inflammatory, weaning off the antidepressant in January now that I am eating enough to take supplements again and taking Tylenol with codeine for back pain. We talked about what healing in my back looks like. Even if we can get rid of the cancer, it will be weak. So no lifting more than about 5 – 10 lbs…for pretty much forever. I will have a bone scan and CT scan in late January to see if the treatment we are doing is working. We also met with the pallative care nurse. She works with patients with chronic and terminal illnesses and helps with pain management and focuses on quality of life. Side effects from the infusion will hit Thursday night. I will be ready with pain meds so I can go to Molly’s first orchestra concert!!

Managing Meds

The quantity of pills I take very day is crazy.

  • Verzenio (chemo pill)
  • Omeprazole (heartburn from the chemo pill)
  • Zofran (for nausea from the chemo pill)
  • Stool Softener (constipation from the zofran and pain meds)
  • Psyllium Husk (constipation from the zofran and pain meds)
  • Anti-depressant (for depression from the Faslodex shot)
  • Multi Vitamin
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin D
  • Digestive Enzyme
  • Calcium Magnesium
  • Essential Fatty Acid
  • Tylenol with Codeine (for pain as needed)
  • Muscle Relaxer (for back pain)
  • Bennadryl (for itching from the Tylenol with Codeine if I have to take more than a half a pill at a time)
  • Trazadone (to help me sleep)

Happy New Year

Happy New Year! I can’t believe it’s 2020!

We got home from our trip to Southern California about 11:45 on Monday night. It was great to spend time with family at Christmas. I wish we all lived closer! Our trip to Disneyland was fun but exhausting. I walked 43 miles in 4 days. I’m so thankful for a hotel to go back and rest in as I needed to! Now we need a vacation from our vacation.

Drugged up

I’ve spent most of the day in bed sleeping on and off. The last week and a half I’ve noticed my shoulders, upper spine and neck have been hurting. It started when we were at Disneyland. I didn’t mention it to my other colleges last week because I figured was just from being a super active on vacation. It was worse yesterday and really bad this morning, bad enough that I didn’t feel like I could drive safely as it’s hard to turn my neck and I stayed home from church. I called the oncologist on call and he told me how much Tylenol with codeine to take and then to move to oxycodone if I needed to. He said if that didn’t touch the pain, I needed to go to the ER. Two Tylenol with codeine helped a little and I can at least lay in bed and move my head a little without major pain. I usually just take half of a pill, so it’s quite a bit more than normal.

This morning I was wondering if maybe it was a pinched nerve, but the doctor said since I didn’t have any shooting pain radiating anywhere, that wasn’t likely. I’ve been really anxious the past few days with the scans coming up and I’m pretty scared right now. Hopefully it’s just some wonky thing that will resolve itself in a day or two.

Please pray the pain will subside enough that I can lower the amount of medicine I have to take and that I can get out of bed. I also really need to be able to drive this week.

Early Scan

It hasn’t been the week I expected.

After Sunday morning’s start with neck pain, the Dr. and nurse told me to go to the ER if the pain got a lot worse, or if I had shortness of breath, pain in my arms, etc.

Tuesday morning as I was getting ready, my left arm started hurting from my wrist up to the middle of my bicep. Since I never asked the Dr. what type of arm pain to be concerned about, I called the office. After talking with the nurse for 20 minutes, she said I should go to the ER…not because it was really an emergency, but because things seem to be progressing quickly and if I went to the ER, they would do the CT scan immediately and I wouldn’t have to wait.

I called my neighbor Jen and she drove me up to the ER. Tom met me there. It was a long day of waiting and playing games on our phones. I am totally addicted to playing Yatzee (thanks Else for getting me started on that on Christmas).
