When your husband takes your 7 year old into urgent care with a sore throat and tells them his wife is going through chemotherapy for breast cancer, it’s really amazing how fast they can get that strep throat culture back and a prescribe a very strong dose of antibiotics. 🙁 They even sent them home with masks. Nice. This is the second time I have gotten test results back for the kids really fast thanks to the C word. No one messes around with it or with another sickness in the family. I am very thankful for that.
So that happened after school today.
Earlier in the day . . .
We enjoyed sitting in traffic thanks to road construction on the way to the hospital for chemo. That’s always a fun way to start the day. The nurse accessed my port (AKA sticking me with the thumbtack needle) and was able to draw blood right away! Woohoo! The medicine I received yesterday did it’s job. Praise God! After looking at the labs from yesterday, the nurse said that the labs didn’t look like those of someone who had received chemo. Woohoo again!! They were very similar to two weeks ago and also to some taken in September.
My chemo dose was 10% more this time, but the Dr. didn’t think I would notice any difference. We’ll see about that. I was tired and a little weak when we got home so I laid down for a few hours.
As soon as the girls got home from school, Tom rushed out the door to Urgent Care with our 7 year old (see story above) and just got home with the prescription (6:45 pm). Of course God’s timing is perfect as Kim showed up with a meal for us and then just stayed and helped with the girls so I could continue to rest. And Crystal drove the girls to AWANA for us which was sooooooooo helpful!
I’m feeling OK. Not fantastic. I can’t decide if I’m going to feel nauseous or just feely yucky. I’m trying to hold off on the Zofran ’til 10 pm if I can so I don’t have to wake up in the middle of the night to take it. But if I need it, I’ll take it. So far, eating a little and sucking on a candy (thanks Debbie) is making me think I’m fine.
Tomorrow I would love to go to Bible Study if possible and then I have a noon appointment for the white blood cell booster shot.
In other news . . . my hair is starting to fall out slowly. No big chunks yet, but a decent amount after getting ready this morning. No need to shave my legs today. Nice! One day soon my hand will do the job of a razor – lol. Soft legs here I come!! The nurse said if that is starting to happen the huge hair loss will probably be in a couple days. So Friday at 4 pm I’m having a hair cutting/shaving party. I have some video ideas for the “party” and will try to make it as fun as possible. Oh my . . .
For specific prayer requests, Praise God that our 6 year old’s cough is still just a cough and is getting better. No asthma problems yet. Please pray for our 7 year old that the antibiotics will kill the strep throat fast and that the rest of us will stay healthy. Please pray my body will tolerate this round of chemo well. I would love to be able to go to Bible Study tomorrow and also to a Women’s Conference on Saturday if possible. Also, our oldest also turns 11 on Sunday. CRAZY!! Please pray for a relaxing, but fun day celebrating.
I Kings 8:61 “Let you heart therefore be wholly devoted to the Lord our God, to walk in His statutes and keep His commandments, as at this day.”
Praising with you for such a wonderful day of provisions.
Yay! Thanks!
Praying for rest tonight for everyone…
You are in my daily prayers. Loves your blog as they let us know what is happening. They are so thoughtful and loving. I pray that you can go to the Womens conference Sat.
Thank you for praying with me for that! 🙂
You are welcome! They were very helpful to me too and the credit for finding them goes to Donna. I hope you find the Zofran helpful too. I never had any side effects from it and found I needed all the doses I could take towards the end. One more helpful thing is to keep your tummy with food in it. It really helps with the nausea. Praying for health for you all! Sweet sleep and good dreams ❣
I took your suggestion and put some saltines by my bed and eat a few before I get up, just to get something in my stomach. That’s helped. 🙂
Hi Jennifer. So glad you are feeling pretty well. You may feel it more as they give you more chemo. Don’t forget to save some hair!! Mine fell out the day after my 2nd chemo. (It’s amazing when you can pull out chunks of hair and it not hurt at all!) Like you, I was prepared….I got a wig right away and my daughter was a big help choosing something that looked natural!! As soon as they removed the drains and the swelling went down I got the prettiest mastectomy bras and prostesis. (I opted for no reconstructive surgery. Top of the line, but natural the silicone pad was heavy and hot!! Are you scheduled for surgery or radiation? I’m glad there are wonderful caregivers for you, and you have such a positive attitude!! It makes a big difference in your recovery knowing that God is in control and He is always there to listen to us and encourage us through prayer and His Word!! Have a good rest today and know that I think of you and pray for you every day!! God bless you!! Karen
I saw your post the other day with your hair in a bag and I’m totally copying that idea! 🙂 I am schedule to have surgery after chemo and then radiation. Haven’t looked into either of those much yet as I just trying to get through the chemo. 🙂 Thanks for the encouragement and suggestions. I appreciate it!
Prayers are continuing for you and your family each day
Thanks Karyn. 🙂

Thank you! Can’t believe tomorrow is the day . . .
Prayers are coming your way you really themneed with a sick child. Wear a mask. Another suggestion do you like ginger? If you get some ginger candy Its the best for nausea, I made a tea like drink that I boiled organic giner and would drink that and it really helped my nausea.if your interested let me know and I will remember what I used (chemo brain). If there is anything I do for you please let me know. I hate the stands of hair falling out, I loved bald. I love you Jen, I am here and knows you are on my mind in my heart and in my prayers. Stay strong and positive.
THE CLARITIN IS WORKING!!!! Look, I typed it in all caps. No aching so far! Woohoo! This time two weeks ago I felt like I had the flu! Thank you! 🙂 And it was so good to see you on Monday! 🙂
I was so happy to see you. I am glad the Claritin is working I wonder what it is that helps it, who cares at least it works. I love you. Be gentle to yourself
I will be praying that the Lord strengthen and sustain you through your chemo treatments, that you will sleep well each night and for strength, peace, and comfort for all of you. Praising God for all the love, support, and help you are getting from caring friends and family.

Jan
