Yay! I get to take a pill a day for the next 10 years.
It’s a tiny little white pill (Arimidex) but it should stop the adrenal gland from producing estrogen, which feeds the type of cancer I have.
The list of possible side effects is horrible. So I’ve decided to not think about them. This is my third day taking it and so far so good. (Although I have no idea when the side effects would kick in, if they did.) My body has responded better than expected to every single treatment so far, so I’m just going to plan it will respond the same with this pill until I have reason to think otherwise.
I was planning to start it after the girls started school, but I was becoming more and more anxious about the possible side effects. So I just decided to start it.
I scheduled some appointments the other day – all for Friday, September 9th. I’ll be starting off the morning with my yearly mammogram. Then moving over to meet with the radiation oncologist. I’ll be finishing out the afternoon at the infusion center for my bone strengthening infusion. Tom is going with me and we’ll be sitting around a lot. Sounds like another date day at Valley Medical Center. Hooray!
Between thinking about starting the new medicine, being on the phone with the 3 medical offices and going through clothes to get the girls ready for school, I haven’t had time for much else. 🙂
So glad you are able to take part in the school preparation for your girls. Praying for fun days before the girls return to school and successful outcomes for the direction your doctor’s are recommending.Thankful Tom can be with you on the 9th.
Will pray with you as you take this new little pill.
Prayers for you while you are taking this new medication. Praying for no side effects. Glad Tom is able to be with you . Such a busy time for you with the girls starting school. It’s nice you are feeling up to doing that. Take care God bless.
Our journeys are so similar. I was also wondering about the side effects of Arimidex, and I started taking it after my last day of radiation in the middle of June. I trust all is well with you concerning side effects. I will pray for you. I am convinced that prayer (and the loving God who answers those prayers) has given us abundant life through this year of the journey. Enjoy the beginning of school.
Thanks Vicki. So far so hot flashes, but not bad ones like when I was on chemo. 🙂 Do you have any side effects since you started in June?
I have been gone for 9 days without my tablet or internet connection or I would have written sooner. Please Jennifer don’t worry so much about that little pill. I’ve been taking it for 6 years and my only side effect has been some hot flashes. And actually in the winter it’s a wonderful side effect because I have always been warm when everyone else has been bundled up against the cold! I would sit around with no socks on my feet and everyone else has on two socks and boots and heavy scarves around their necks.I only “flashed” once a month and the rest of the time I was just warm. If I have learned anything, it is that no two people are alike, but trust God, because it may be hardly anything at all.
So far just hot flashes. Glad you responded well to it. I pray I continue to do so too!
I have been taking a pill for 7 1/2 years. It’s called Femara. I experience muscle/joint pain and weight gain. I hope you have no severe side effects!! Prayers and HUGS, Jennifer!!
