We are back from vacation.
I think in the past I might have said I “needed” a vacation. But this time, our family really did NEED a get-a-way from cancer treatments and restaurant openings.
We were gone 8 days in Eastern Washington and Idaho. Most of the time we were in an area we had never visited before and it was fun exploring new places!
It took us a few days to settle into vacation mode. But we did eventually and enjoyed time as a family and Tom and I even got a little time to talk as the kids played in the lake or watched movies in the car.
The conversation that stands out the most to me during our time away was about the future. We have been living one day at a time, one moment at a time, for this past year. It has been hard to look ahead at the future and plan anything.
We talked about trips we’d like to go on as a family. There are a few places we wanted to wait ’til the girls are older to go to, but I don’t want to miss them. After talking for a while, we decided to try really hard to not think that way. If we want to go to Disney World, let’s plan it wisely with travel insurance and know cancelation policies, but plan it! Yes, something might change with my health, but if we never plan it, it will never happen. I have no idea if that makes any sense, but it was a great conversation about the unknown future and how we want to look at it.
So now it’s back to reality – Tom to work and the girls and I enjoying the last days of summer as school starts on September 1st.
So glad you had such a fun relaxing vacation! You look refreshed. You continue to be on our hearts.
Thanks Bobbie. 🙂
You’ve been unable to really relax and “exhale” this whole year…so glad you’ve been able to relax, have fun, and make plans for the future: as the saying goes,”Failing to plan is planning to fail”, and you’re “planning” well!
So happy everything went so well!
That phrase means so much more to me now than ever! 🙂
So good to read your remarks. They made me happy. Praying for you and family everyday. Since my moms death, her house has been sold, we bought a house with 2 acres just above Prescott, AZ, heading out for the last time Friday. Is a brand new chapter in our lives, both being natives Califorians, always have been around some family member. Now will be between both Dara and Rod. Please pray for comfort for me and a safe trip, both me and Dave will be driving UHauls.
What a fun adventure and how nice you can be between the kids. I will be praying for comfort and safety as you drive the trucks! Happy packing! 🙂
You have a new mindset and that’s going to help you in planning and leaning on the Lord to lead, as He promises. I’m so glad you got some time at the end of summer to be together and put the cancer treatments (well, most of it) in the rear view mirror ♥ Praying your new norm is something you adjust to readily and find that thinking about your future doesn’t bring anxiety, but the peace the only the Lord can give. As your girls are watching and catching from you and Tom what it looks like to live w/ stage 4 cancer ♥ thanks for sharing your posts 🙂 and letting us interact with you, and especially pray for you all!
