Today was my 4th infusion of Taxol (12 total). So I’m 1/3 of the way done. Yay!
My port worked on the first time (so thankful for that) and we were out of the infusion center and home just before noon!! Everything went very smoothly.
The last round was a bit harder than the previous one. After 2 days of being pretty uncomfortable, I sent a message to the Dr. letting him know I was ready to try something for the achiness and pains I was feeling. So I’m armed and ready with a new plan of attack which I’ll start tomorrow (Thursday), the day before I would expect to start feeling the effects from the chemo.
Here’s the plan. Starting the day before I expect the pain to start, I’ll be taking Tramadol, Claritin-D and l-glutamine powder. (This is in addition to the Pepcid, Calcium, Colace, probiotic and fiber I already take.) Then I’ll stop that on Saturday or Sunday as the pain only lasts 2 days (usually).
Another part of the plan is to try to get up and move more. One day this week I’m going to head to the gym with Tom and get a membership and see how that goes. I’m not sure how much I can do, but I need to be more active as that will help with my fatigue. Workout on Wednesday is not an option for now because of chemo, but I’m hoping to be able to go on Saturdays again after my friend and fearless workout leader has her baby soon! But one day a week is not enough and I’m too big of a wimp to go out in 40 degree weather to walk (and I hate to run). We’ll see how that part of the plan goes. I’ll keep you posted.
On another note, one that makes me feel older than I am, 🙁 I’m getting hot flashes during the night. Wow. Those are so much fun. I just love waking up a few times each hour, throwing the covers off, falling back asleep, waking up a few minutes later freezing and repeating that all through the night!!
I talked to the Dr. about it and he did give me something to help with that and last night I slept so much better (and so did Tom).
What a journey this is. I’m leaning so much.
Specific things to pray for:
- For me to continue to feel good enough to get the girls ready for school each morning so Tom can work. This is such a productive time for him!!
- That this new “plan of attack” will help me feel less achy from the chemo meds this round
- That I will have patience with the girls when I am tired
If there is something specific I can pray for you, please email me and let me know!
So much to be thankful for . . .
PS: If you shop on Amazon.com, would you use my affiliate link to help me keep this blog online? Thanks! 🙂
Praying for you, friend! If you ever want/need some extra company, I’m less than 10 minutes from Valley and would love to come see you. I miss seeing your beautiful smiling face (and tall figure) at workout each week. We tall gals gotta stick together! 🙂
Thanks Katie. Hopefully one day soon we’ll both be back!!
Hugs and prayers for you this week, my friend. The new plan sounds like a good one. It’s hard to get up and do something active when you feel cruddy, but I bet it will help.
We continue to pray for you multiple times a day. I appreciate your updates so we know your specific requests.
Hot flashes?!?! How can that be? Is it something brought on by the chemo drugs? It has to be…surely we’re not old enough for this stage?
Love you. Lifting you up now.
The chemo messes with my hormones. 🙁 At one point the Dr. mentioned treatment might send me into early menopause. That would be fun . . . We’ll see what happens!
I’m praying for you. Mom has a membership at Pinnacle Physical Therapy; they have one in Covington or Four Corners. A more personal, clinical approach and not the big gym atmosphere, and you can even go in after hours on your own when the gym is empty. Might be an option.
I actually looked into that one first but it is more than double the price. 🙁
Game on!!
You’ve got the plan to be successful in this major fight!
My prayers are with you to keep your humor through the hormone changes & for the girls to be gracious to their mother!
I am sorry, but I had to laugh when you wrote about the “HOT FLASHES”!! I am old enough to have them and they are EXACTLY as you stated! Some mornings I wake up tired just because of them. They can be a pain during the day, too. What I don’t like is they sneak up on you. Really hope your outings at the gym work out and you can feel better and less fatigued. And of course, we will pray for your new plan to help with the achiness. We know anything is possible with God, right! Praying for a good day for you and your family.
So you can relate? Sorry. 🙁 Waking up tired because of them is horrible!!
